McKay Scholarship
The McKay Scholarships for Students with Disabilities Program provided over 26,000 Florida students with special needs the opportunity to attend a participating private school during the school year. The McKay Scholarships Program also offers parents public school choice. A parent of an eligible special needs student may choose to transfer the student to another public school.
Step Up For Students
Step Up For Students was created to help alleviate the enormous educational challenges faced by children in Florida who live in or near poverty. The program provides Tax Credit Scholarships to students in K-12 who come from low-income families. These scholarships allow the students to consider a participating private school or an out-of-district public school that may better suit their individual needs, an option which already is available to families of greater financial means.
Gardiner Scholarship Program
The Gardiner Scholarship Program ( Previously PLSA) was renamed in Januaury 2016. It is an educational plan for students with special needs. The Gardiner Scholarship (PLSA) is different than other state scholarships in that it allows parents to personalize the education of their children with unique abilities by directing money toward a combination of programs and approved providers. These include schools, therapists, specialists, curriculum, technology and even a college savings account.
Hope Scholarship
Beginning with the 2018-2019 school year, through the Hope Scholarship student enrolled in a Florida public school in kindergarten through grade 12 who has been subjected to an incident of battery, harassment, hazing, bullying, kidnapping, physical attack, robbery, sexual offenses, harassment, assault, or battery, threat or intimidation, or fighting at school the opportunity to transfer to another public school with capacity or enroll in an approved private school under the Hope Scholarship.
Family Empowerment Scholarship
In April 2019, the Florida Legislature created the Family Empowerment Scholarship to help with the waitlist for the Florida Tax Credit Scholarship Program, expanding scholarship opportunities to lower-income families. This is a tuition-assistance scholarship program. Specific details are still in progress, but eligibility is determined first by income level. Children in grades beyond kindergarten must have attended a public school the year prior to application to be considered for this scholarship.
